The main rescue center Northern Norway reports on Wednesday afternoon that they have ended their search for the man. A Norwegian fisherman was reported missing from a fishing boat on Tuesday evening. Great resources were put into the search. – The organized search for the missing fisherman north of Bjørnøya ended at 14:00 on Wednesday, without any findings, writes the Central Rescue Center on Twitter. The Coast Guard’s “KV Barentshav” and the relevant fishing boat on which the person was working will continue to stay in the area. At 18:00 on Wednesday, the police in Troms report that the man is presumed dead. It is Jo Aron Kvinge Rogne (26) from Longva who has been missing. The name will be released in consultation with the family. Rogne’s employer describes the incident as tragic. – We have had the worst possible outcome of this tragic incident, says general manager of the fishing boat company Bluewild, Tore Roaldsnes. He sends all his condolences to the relatives and crew, who are now in a very demanding situation. At the same time, he would like to extend a big thank you to the many people who have contributed to the last 24 hours’ search. – All focus has been on assisting the search and rescue operation. Now the focus is on looking after relatives and crew as best as possible. When it comes to clarifying the incident, this is work that the police and Accident Investigation Board will lead and report on, says Roaldsnes. It is assumed that the person in question has fallen overboard, and HRS has launched a search with helicopters and vessels. – KV “Barentshav” and several fishing vessels located in the vicinity have been included in the search for the missing person. Rescue helicopters from Svalbard and Banak are also on their way to the area, says Frode Iversen. There is a westerly breeze in the area, but Iversen says the main problem is a lack of light.
