The German Bundestag voted on Tuesday to impeach German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz and his minority government. It paves the way for new elections in February. Now it is up to President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to dissolve the National Assembly, which he has three weeks to do, but which is only considered a formality. After that, new elections must be held within 60 days. Scholz has expressed a desire for the election to be held on 23 February, which Steinmeier has indicated is a realistic date.
