29 February 2024 at 14:31 Russian editor-in-chief arrested The editor-in-chief of the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, Sergej Sokolov, has been arrested in Russia. The newspaper writes that itself. Sokolov is arrested for “discrediting” the Russian army. After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 – of which the newspaper has been very critical – many of the newspaper’s employees escaped from Russia. The newspaper and its former editor, Dmitrij Muratov, were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021. Sokolov took over the role of editor-in-chief in September 2023, after Muratov resigned.
