Reuters reports. Medvedev is deputy chairman of Russia’s National Security Council. It is 15 years since a short-lived war broke out between Russia and Georgia which ended with Russia securing control over the two breakaway regions. The war broke out after Georgian forces tried to take control of South Ossetia, and Russia sent troops across the border and occupied both South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The idea of annexation is still popular in the regions, Dmitry Medvedev wrote in an article published in the Russian newspaper Argumenty i Fakty. – It can quite possibly be carried out if there are good reasons for it, said Medvedev.
