French prosecutors are asking for a prison sentence in the corruption case against Marine Le Pen, reports the AFP news agency. The prosecution will also deprive her of the right to stand as a political candidate for five years. Le Pen and other leading French right-wing nationalists are accused of embezzling EU funds. They deny the charges. The fraud is said to have occurred when France’s far-right party stated that the money was to finance positions in the EU Parliament. In reality, they should have gone to employees who worked for the party in France.
