The Swedish Road Administration has not found any technical fault with the car. The report was presented today, approximately seven weeks after the accident. Nevertheless, it is too early to draw a conclusion on exactly what caused the fatal accident in Sandvika. The gas pedal was activated 100 per cent – the car had a speed of 62 km/h when it hit the brick wall, says the press release from the police. The gas pedal was activated 100 percent approximately three seconds before the collision. The brake pedal was not operated in the last five seconds before the accident. Man in his 60s lost his life It was Monday 23 September that a man in his 60s died after driving out from the fourth floor of the parking garage of Sandvika Storsenter in Bærum. The car must have been parked about 30 meters into the car park. – It was quite straight in front of where the car ended up driving out, without turning, said police lawyer, Kathrine Eilertsen, in October. The car must have driven through guard rails, an iron grid and a solid brick wall. According to the police attorney, the accident car was positioned somewhat inwards in the premises and had a certain speed when it hit the brick wall. In October, however, one of these hypotheses was weakened. The preliminary autopsy report showed that the man died from injuries in connection with the descent. Thus, the police’s main focus became technical failure or user error. There was extensive damage to the parking garage of Sandvika shopping center after the car drove off the fourth floor.
