– It is, after all, the great doomsday and end-time narrative of our time. That we and the planet can perish, and that it is our fault, says film expert and associate professor at the University of Oslo, Jon Inge Faldalen. He is talking about the film “Twisters”, which had its US premiere this week and arrived in Norwegian cinemas on Thursday. At the same time, real events have given the launch of the film about extreme tornadoes a gloomy backdrop. Hurricane “Beryl” has in recent weeks caused destruction and taken several lives in the Caribbean, before it recently moved over Texas. In the new film, it is the fearless storm chasers Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones), Tyler Owens (Glen Powell) and Javi (Anthony Ramos) who try to tame and extinguish tornadoes in Oklahoma in the USA. – Hurricanes and tornadoes occur more often, we must be aware and empathetic. The film is a small glimpse from a bigger picture, says Anthony Ramos to news via video link. The actors of Twisters at the premiere. From left: Anthony Ramos, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell. I think there are more suitable genres. Film expert Faldalen says that disaster films that depict the world we live in can have an effect. – It can give some feelings of both shock and anxiety, which can contribute to action or a change in attitude, says Faldalen. At the same time, he is unsure whether “Twisters” and the disaster genre is a particularly good depiction of the challenges we face. – This genre has a very individual focus with the classic hero who has to solve things, preferably alone. Then structures and social actors disappear. Film expert and associate professor at the Department of Media and Communication at the University of Oslo, Jon Inge Faldalen, believes that disaster films about climate such as “Twisters” can lead to action, but believes that there are more suitable genres. Photo: Privat / Privat He believes that there are other genres that are better suited to describe climate change. – The question is whether a classic Hollywood set-up is the best. I would guess that the documentary genre is better suited. Director Chung says that the film is not about climate-related challenges either. – I would say that the film is fundamentally about Kate Cooper and her emotional journey. Twisters premieres in Norwegian cinemas on 11 July. news interviewed the actors before the launch. – Had started screaming Kate Cooper is played by Daisy Edgar-Jones. Cooper experiences losing loved ones in the tornado-prone area of Oklahoma in the United States. Edgar-Jones says that she has spent time trying to understand how people who experience disasters react, including by looking at people who have post-traumatic stress disorder. Pictures & Amblin Entertainment Universal Pictures / Melinda Sue Gordon – I found weather and storm to be a great way to represent an inner emotional journey. Each tornado was a step closer for Kate to finding herself, says Edgar-Jones. In “Twisters” we also meet SoMe star Tyler Owens, under the brand name: “The Tornado Cowboy”, played by Glen Powell. Fearlessly, he drives into the storm and streams this to his viewers. Tornado chasers Glen Powell as “The Tornado Cowboy” and Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Cooper.
