Details of the Disappearance

The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) has activated an Amber Alert for 14-year-old Gloria Altahir José Rivera, missing since May 27 from the Culhuacán CTM Section V area in Coyoacán. Originally from Oaxaca, Gloria had relocated to the capital with her family.

The authorities opened a search folder under folio D/01937/2026/CBP following the family’s report. They have also called for community assistance to gather any information that could aid in locating her.

Physical Description and Last Known Outfit

According to the details in the search file, Gloria is approximately 1.50 meters tall, has a slim build, and light brown skin. She possesses straight black hair, large black eyes, and a scrape scar on her left cheek, along with a red spot on her lower abdomen. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a yellow striped blouse, blue jeans, and white sneakers with black stripes.

Community Response and Actions Taken

Since her disappearance, her family and acquaintances have attempted to reach her via phone and have searched the surrounding streets relentlessly, distributing flyers to increase awareness. Despite their efforts, there have been no updates on her whereabouts.

Feeling frustrated by the lack of progress from officials, Gloria’s relatives initiated a protest on May 29, blocking the ESIME Culhuacán Metrobús area to demand her prompt and safe return.

Ongoing Concerns in Mexico City

Gloria’s case is part of a worrying trend in Mexico City, where in the first three months of 2026 alone, there were 711 reports of missing individuals, with 251 still unaccounted for. The mayor’s office of Iztapalapa alone accounted for 195 of these reports, highlighting an epidemic of disappearances that has sparked calls for better action from authorities.

Recent Trends in Missing Person Cases

This alarming increase in disappearances is further illustrated by statistics indicating that Mexico City closed 2025 with over 2,200 missing persons, a 76% rise from the previous year. The National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons (RNPDNO) has documented more than 900 reports from January to April of 2026, averaging 8.3 daily disappearances.

Local authorities have faced criticism for their responses, with families urging for improved efforts and cooperation between different governmental departments to ensure missing persons cases are prioritized.

How to Help

Anyone with information about Gloria Altahir’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the authorities at 5554840430 or reach out through FGJCDMX official channels. Community vigilance and swift reporting are essential in helping to locate her and bring her safely back home.

The urgent plea from Gloria’s family and the ongoing crisis of missing persons in Mexico City highlight the need for immediate action and awareness in the face of these tragedies.
