10 January 2024 at 22:53 Three magical Liverpool minutes lowered Fulham Liverpool beat Fulham 2–1 in the first of two semi-finals in the League Cup. A goal by Willian gave Fulham a surprise lead at Anfield after 19 minutes. The Brazilian danced his way past several Liverpool defenders. The 35-year-old hammered the ball into the goal in front of a despairing Virgil van Dijk who was unable to head the ball away in front of the goal. – It will be a miserable clearance by van Dijk, said Viaplay’s football expert Jørgen Tjærnås. – Buzzing at the back at Liverpool, added commentator Andreas Toft. But Liverpool would fight back. Curtis Jones hammered in from around 20 meters after just over an hour. The ball went via Tosin and dropped into the goal behind an outplayed Bernd Leno. Less than three minutes later Liverpool attacked again, this time with two substitutes who had only been on the pitch for a quarter of an hour. Darwin Núñez hit a low cross into the box which Cody Gakpo sensitively poked home. The match was thus turned 2-1 for Liverpool. The second leg will be played in London in a week’s time when it will be decided who will play in the League Cup final on 25 February. Middlesbrough won 1-0 over Chelsea in the first leg of the second semi-final played on Tuesday night.
