16 June 2023 at 09:55 Australia recommends testosterone limits for transgender athletes Australia’s highest sporting authority has presented a framework for permissible testosterone levels among transgender athletes participating in the women’s category. This is reported by Reuters, among others. The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) presented several guidelines for inclusion in sport on Friday. The guidelines are non-mandatory, but allow the country’s specific national federations to decide that testosterone suppression is necessary to be able to participate in certain sports. According to the guidelines, transgender athletes must have had a testosterone level of less than 2.5 nanomoles per liter of blood for at least two years before the relevant competition in order to participate. Different sports must nevertheless have the opportunity to set their own limits. – Sports that are not explosive, power-based or aerobic can consider it so that the limit is too low, says the framework. Several sports do not allow transgender athletes to participate in the women’s class at all. Other sports have set a framework similar to the one ASC presented on Friday. (NTB)
