There was a record number of hotel stays in Norway in June. 2.8 million hotel overnight stays were recorded, an increase of 4.6 per cent from the same month last year, writes SSB (external link). The rest of the summer also looks promising, we believe the CEO of NHO Reiseliv, Kristin Krohn Devold. – The krone exchange rate has become significantly weaker than it was in August last year. We believe that we can get many of those who were on the fence before the summer to let the trip tilt in the direction of Norway. Currently, two out of three hotel stays are paid for from Norwegian wallets. But now the foreign tourists are coming in full force. – Maybe it will be the best year ever for Norwegian tourism. The CEO of NHO Reiseliv, Kristin Krohn Devold, believes that 2024 could be left as a record year for the tourism industry. She appreciates the experience she gets at Solborg, where they expect a turnover of NOK 2 million this summer. – I think it’s really fun to get good management experience that I can take with me further. I have learned an awful lot. Among others, the sisters Sunniva and Margrethe Aase are at the reception this summer. – Last week it was fully booked. It’s fun when there’s so much life. But it’s a bit busy, says older sister Sunniva. Little sister Margrethe, aged 14, is one of the youngest substitutes at Solborg. Some guests react to the fact that there is an unusually young receptionist who welcomes them. – There was a guest who thought I was a child labourer. It was a bit scary. Still, they both agree that they have the best job in the world. Sisters Margrethe and Sunniva Aase thrive when there is a lot to do at work, like this summer. The counties with the greatest growth were Nordland and Østfold, with an increase of 19 and 13 per cent respectively. Hotel director at Clarion Hotel Energy in Stavanger, Gjermund Dahl, cannot boast such figures. They have had an increase of just over 2 per cent compared to June last year. – I am of course satisfied with the increase, but we are dependent on the destination developing in order to become bigger and stronger in that market here. I don’t think we have come out well enough this year. He points to one possible reason in particular why Rogaland comes out worse in the statistics. – The Norwegian market is very weather-driven. And Rogaland hasn’t had much to brag about this summer. Gjermund Dahl thinks the weather may have had something to do with tourism to Rogaland and his Clarion Hotel Energy.
