This is a new record, reports the Instiut de Ciencies del Mar in Barcelona. The previous record was set in July 2023. Then the temperature was 28.71 degrees. It was warmest in the north-east of Egypt, where preliminary figures show that 31.96 degrees were measured. The figures come from satellite data collected by the EU’s Copernicus observation system. Before the heat wave last year, 20 years had passed since the previous temperature record.
