Record collection for the TV campaign – news Culture and entertainment

It means an enormous amount. It means a lot to our patients, said Lindis Hurum, general secretary of Legar without borders, when the total amount was known. This year, the TV campaign goes to Legar without borders and the sister organization Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi). The organization has chosen the action motto “borderless diseases – forgotten patients”. The money collected will help prevent epidemics and treat people who are affected by known and unknown diseases in four countries; DR Congo, Central African Republic, Bangladesh and Sierra Leone. The result was NOK 266,202,750. Moved to tears – The fact that there are so many people in Norway who want to contribute what they can is absolutely priceless. It is completely defining who you are as a person, as an organisation, or a nation what you do in the face of other people’s injustice and suffering. I am deeply moved by the fact that so many Norwegians are willing to extend a hand, continued Hurum, moved to tears. Then there will be no help. Then it is the case that you can die from an illness that you do not need to die from. So far, Rogaland is the county that has given the most, with Agder and Møre and Romsdal right behind. Check how much your municipality has given so far here. Photo: Matt Rourke / AP NOK 10 can save a life Since DNDi was established in 2003, the organization has developed 12 treatments against six life-threatening diseases. This has saved millions of lives. But there is still a need for help: Every day 1,700 people die of malaria. 600 million live in a risk area for the skin disease kala-azar. 23 million lives have been saved in the last 20 years thanks to measles vaccines. Half of the world’s population does not have access to the necessary health care. With the money from the TV campaign, Doctors Without Borders and DNDi can continue their work to prevent diseases and develop medicines that can help millions of them. For a mere NOK 10, you can contribute to malaria treatment – and with it save a life. See the TV action on news 1 from 19.50 or whenever you want on news TV.
