6 August 2024 at 02:06 Recoil on the Tokyo stock exchange – up more than 10 per cent The Tokyo stock exchange rises sharply in morning trading, the day after the Nikkei index’s biggest fall ever. The Nikkei index was up 3.91 percent when Tuesday’s trading started. The broader Topix index rose 3.92 percent in the opening minutes. A few minutes later, the rise was even greater – the Nikkei index had then risen 7.39 per cent and the Topix index 7.28 per cent. Later on Tuesday morning, the rise continued to 10.33 per cent on the Nikkei index and 10.26 per cent on the Topix index. Thus, the Tokyo stock exchange has made up for much of Monday’s enormous fall. Then the Nikkei index plunged 12.4 per cent, the biggest decline in the index’s history. (NTB)
