– We are happy that we can offer so many colleagues jobs again, after a demanding period of redundancies and a halt in production. At the same time, we are thinking about the close to 50 colleagues, for whom we unfortunately no longer have work. That’s what CEO Jan Enno Bicker of REC Solar Norway says in a press release. In September last year, production was put on hold, and since then over 200 employees have been made redundant. The reason is said to have been increased electricity prices and price pressure on silicon. According to the company, this meant that production at the Norwegian facilities was no longer financially sustainable. One-to-one meetings In recent weeks, the company has held one-to-one meetings with employees who have risked being affected by the redundancies. The company states this in the press release. There is a general meeting at REC Solar now, where the employees get information about the situation. Of the 122 employees, who will continue to work, 110 are at the company in Kristiansand and 12 at the facility at Herøya in Porsgrunn. Before the production stoppage, Rec Solar Norway had around 250 employees in Kristiansand and Porsgrunn.
