Police suspect that eight cows were shot with air rifle in Skåbu in Nord-Fron municipality in the Inland – news Innlandet – Local news, TV and radio

The small farmer in Skåbu in Nord-Fron municipality quickly understood that something was wrong with the animals that returned to the farm on Sunday afternoon. – Several of them had blood on them. There was one in particular who had an awful lot of blood on the sides. She had several wounds on her body, small round wounds from which blood dripped, says Elin Blekastad. It turned out that eight out of ten animals had been injured. One of them may have to be killed. JUR DAMAGE: Kaa bleeds from what can be a gunshot wound in the udder. Photo: Private Both Blekastad and the police suspect that someone has shot the cows with a rifle. The police currently believe that it may be an air rifle. The small farmer himself believes that a so-called saloon rifle, with a caliber of 22, has been used, but that the animals have been shot at some distance. What do you think about it, if this is the case? – It is such a sick act that it is something to be sick of. It is so grotesque to shoot people’s pets just to hurt them, says Blekastad. Is it conceivable that the animal has been exposed to some other type of injury? – No. I can not imagine what else they may have been exposed to other than violence from people, she says. It was the newspaper GD that first reported on the case. Has started an investigation A police patrol and a veterinarian were on the farm already on Sunday night to make investigations and treat the injured animals. Police have taken photos of the injuries and several neighbors and other people in the area have been contacted to find out if they had made observations. Lensman Jon Gaarden in Midt-Gudbrandsdal says the police have made up their minds about what has happened. INVESTIGATOR: Sheriff Jon Gaarden at Midt-Gudbrandsdal sheriff’s office investigates the injuries to which the cows are exposed. Photo: Ruth Barsten / news – It indicates, as we now know, that they were probably shot at with an air rifle, without it being completely safe, says Gaarden. The police currently do not have many clues to follow in the investigation. No air rifle bullets have been found either on the animals or elsewhere. – It is only damage to the skin of the animals. The vet is on site again today to look after the animals and if there is more to say about it. We will be in continuous contact with both the animal owner and the veterinarian to move forward in the case, says Gaarden. Assessing killing Elin Blekastad says that she has not slept since yesterday because she is so worried about her animals and shocked by what has happened. She says that six of the cows are doing relatively well, but that two of them have suffered injuries to their feet and must rest inside the barn. Blekastad says it may be relevant to kill one of the cows, but that it has not been decided yet. – One has suffered injuries to the knee joint and the udder, so she is certainly not well. Now she’s in. She has difficulty getting up, difficulty standing and she has a fever. And she milks blood. The small farmer now encouraged everyone who may know something about helping the police to solve what has happened. She has now released the cows on infield pasture where they are allowed to eat what will be this year’s crop. – I love my animals so much and I hurt them so much. I saw how shocked and scared they were when they returned last night. They clumped together and just wanted to come in and be with us, she says.
