On the night of Thursday, a woman in her 60s was shot and killed in her own home in Uppsala, north of Stockholm. The woman was the mother of a man connected to gang crime and the criminal network Foxtrot, writes SVT. Now the police fear revenge actions in the wake of the murder. – This can be seen as a declaration of war, says SVT’s reporter Diamant Salihu, who works with crime for the Swedish public broadcaster. The murder in Uppsala is now expected to lead to revenge actions. – Going after someone’s mother is almost a sacred rule that should not be broken. This can be seen as a declaration of war which will possibly have major consequences, says Salihu. The murder took place in the Gränby area of Uppsala, north of Stockholm. Jale Poljarevius, regional intelligence chief in the Central police district, tells Aftonbladet that the situation is serious: – There is an extremely serious situation in the area due to this serious incident, he tells the newspaper. According to Poljarevius, crimes affecting relatives of criminals, or third parties, have become more common. – It is not the first time this has happened. It is probably the start of a change, he says. The police now fear that the murder will lead to more serious acts of violence. – Now we are working to try to stop any new shootings in the wake of this one, says Poljarevius. Well-organized network Foxtrot is a criminal network based in Sweden. The leader of the network is Rawa Majid, also known as the Kurdish Fox. He is wanted internationally for, among other things, drug crimes. A dozen people are said to be closely associated with the criminal network. The majority of them are said to be aged 25-35, according to investigative documents that refer to the network. Foxtrot has made a name for itself as a major player on the Swedish drug market. They are also known for recruiting children and young people. – They are also described as a network with a large capital of violence, says Salihu. According to the police, the network is said to have been involved in the kidnapping of the rap artist Einár, who was shot dead in 2021. Several of the members have previously been convicted of violence, drug crimes and gross corruption. Several others are suspects in similar cases. Below you can hear Updatedert’s episode about “The Kurdish fox; Sweden’s big gangster”: Two people arrested Two people have been arrested after the woman was shot, says the prosecutor in the case, Erik Grönwall. – Two men have been arrested, one of them is under 18. There is strong suspicion against both, says Grönwall to SVT. The prosecutor is otherwise tight-lipped about the case. He does not want to comment on whether they have made seizures or the like. – We work broadly and based on several hypotheses and theories and do not want to lock ourselves into a theory so early, he says. 247 shooting incidents this year The police fear that the murder of the Foxtrot member’s mother will send Sweden into a worse spiral of violence than the country is already in. The Swedish Police’s overview of 2023 shows that there have been 247 shooting incidents in the country as of 31 August. 30 are killed and 73 injured. Attempts to blow up have been made 31 times, and 88 times the police have uncovered plans for explosions. The police in Sweden are equipping themselves with more personnel in the worst conflicts. They collaborate intensively across the country to overcome organized crime. The perpetrators of violence are also often young. Last Thursday, a 15-year-old boy was convicted of murdering a boy of the same age, writes Expressen.
