The man in his 40s was reported missing at the lake Leirin in Fagernes in Valdres on Saturday 27 May. The man had been on a fishing trip with a friend on Friday. When he didn’t show up the next day, the friend notified the police. On Thursday 1 June, the water was searched with sonar. The sonar search yielded results in an area this afternoon, and divers from Gjøvik came to Leirin this evening. – This evening we notified the next of kin of the discovery of a dead person who we assume is the man who was reported missing on Saturday. The deceased was found after we launched a sonar search on Thursday with assistance from a company in Kristiansand, says chief of staff Pål Erik Teigen in the Innlandet police district. The police state that they located the deceased quickly and got the deceased out of the water. The deceased will be autopsied. Major search operation Both rescue teams and volunteers searched for the man throughout the weekend. On Monday morning, the police reported that they switched to searching for a presumed dead person. The missing person was out fishing in a boat with a friend on Friday 26 May. The boat is said to have become stuck in the reeds, and the mate went into the water to free the boat. The comrade went ashore when he got cold, and that was the last sighting of the missing person. When the friend did not hear anything from the man on Saturday, he notified the police. The police launched a search operation at 4pm on Saturday. Both the air ambulance and local fire brigade were out on the water with boats. LEIRIN: Leirin is a water in Fagernes in Valdres.
