On this day, a flag has been put up on the last part of the path towards Klatrehytta out on Agdenes in Trøndelag. Because when Per Jan Ørborg arrives at the new cabin, he is welcomed by friends, former colleagues and the Norwegian Tourist Association (DNT). Since 2013, he has spent his holidays and free time visiting the roughly 600 cabins the Tourist Association has in this country. He will be the first to achieve that goal. – Why? You must be crazy! There is probably an early interest in getting out. I’ve been speeding outside for years, says Ørborg. Per Jan Ørborg. Photo: Jøte Toftaker / news Because there are very few cabins you can drive to. Most of the tourist association’s cabins can only be reached on foot. This year alone, he has visited 75-80 cabins. – I make a plan before I set out on my trips. I set up what I will do day by day. Then let the weather be what it will be. And there have been some hiking boots. – Mountain shoes wear out in three or four years, so then they will be new shoes. Because it hasn’t just been Instagram-friendly sunsets, dry paths and cool weather. – There have been some real bad weather days. It is not as fun to arrive with wet equipment. It’s not as much fun to put on wet socks and shoes from the day before to continue either. But that’s the way it is, says the travel-happy pensioner. There have been a lot of wet hiking boots during the project. Photo: Per Jan Ørbog Red key Information manager at DNT, Jonny Remmereit, is very impressed by the efforts of Ørborg. He was among those who made the trip to Klatrehytta to mark the visit. – That he has visited all the cabins of DNT in Norway is a feat! And then he has had many different experiences. There are nice weather days and there are bad weather days. But all this has given him nature experiences that he will take with him for the rest of his life, says Remmereit. Many of the cabins have decent views. This is Rabohytta’s view out towards the Okstidan glacier and the roof of Northern Norway, Okstindan. Photo: Per Jan Ørborg He says there aren’t very many people who visit the tourist association’s cabins with that as their goal. Most people use the cabins as a starting point for trips, or stop by on their way to other areas. – They are absolutely fantastic. They are inspirations, says Remmereit. Those who are members of DNT can obtain a key that gives access to all the cabins they have. Those who have visited 100 cabins receive a gold key from the association. On the occasion that Ørborg had visitors, he was handed a red key by the information manager. Prefers the classic cabins During the project of visiting all the cabins, he has seen everything the tourist association has to offer. Some of the cabins have been simple arches, while many of the new ones have a far better standard. Ørbog has no doubts about which ones he likes best. – Of the new ones, there is a lot of architectural facsimile. There are a lot of strange things about the new arrivals, he believes. He highlights Skåket and Flokehyttene, among other things. Small cabins in a row at a vantage point. – I like the classic cabins best, says Ørbog. Being able to brag about having visited everyone is, however, a short-lived thing, if you are not constantly on the go. – Already next week, a new DNT cabin will open. So this is a project that can last a lifetime. Because we will be making cabins for many years to come, says Remmereit. Kjellandbu by the Hardangerfjord is top 2 on the list of the finest cabins Per Jan has visited during his many trips. Photo: Per Jan Ørborg Per Jan’s favorite cabins Stein Bugge Næss / news 1: Fuglesteg – This cabin is located deep in the Sognefjord. It is not such a typical cabin, but the location impressed me. From the road, it is 600 meters in height, so you come up quite a bit. Per Jan Ørbog / news 2: Kjellandbu The little cabin is located on Løkjedalsnuten by Folgefonna. – It is located on a mountain slope so that you can look out over the Hardangerfjord. Bad cabin, but it is well located. Per Jan Ørbog / news 3: TåkeheimenHytta is located on Helgeland not too far from Svartisen. – It is located on the western edge of Svartisen. This is also placed very high and airy. You look out over the fjord and towards Steigen. Per Jan Ørbog / news 4: Rabohytta This is one of DNT’s newest cabins and is located with a view over Okstindane in Nordland. – It is located close to a glacier. This is a fantastic cabin. It is new and modern. Geir Horndalen 5: StorerikvollenHytta is located in Sylan with a view over Essandsjøen and the Sylmassivet. – If you have a nice summer evening there, you’ll have a good time!
