Pepe Aguilar Addresses Shooting Near His Ranch
Pepe Aguilar recently broke his silence regarding the shocking shooting that occurred near his ranch in Zacatecas, involving his daughter Ángela Aguilar and son-in-law Christian Nodal. In an interview with Tony Dandrades, he voiced his concerns about the escalating violence in Mexico, particularly following the capture and subsequent death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The Incident
During the interview, Aguilar described how the incident unfolded close to his El Soyate ranch. He refrained from discussing specific details of the shooting, choosing instead to highlight the general vulnerability that all Mexicans face in the current climate of violence.
“What you mention only shows that we are all vulnerable… some more than others, but I hope this situation will soon pass,” Aguilar stated.
He expressed frustration at the rising violence impacting families across the nation.
A National Concern
Aguilar’s remarks came amidst a nationwide wave of tension, especially after “El Mencho” was killed in a military operation in Jalisco just days after his capture. This ignited a series of blockades and confrontations across multiple states, underscoring the broader issues of insecurity plaguing Mexico.
“Although the attack impacted my family, it reflects a larger problem that we all face,” he stated, emphasizing that the issue permeates far beyond his personal experiences.
Seeking Peace for Mexico
Amid the chaos, Aguilar articulated his deep longing for peace in Mexico:
“I hope that Mexico soon reaches peace, which good people deserve,” he said earnestly.
He implored those in power to make wise decisions for the betterment of the country.
The Confrontation
The violent clash began on February 12 on federal highway 54, near Tayahua, when the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Force (FRIZ) engaged with suspected members of the CJNG. This led to an armed response from civilians, causing a violent exchange of gunfire and improvised explosive devices.
During this turmoil, Ángela Aguilar and Christian Nodal unwittingly found themselves caught in the crossfire, but officials later confirmed they were not direct targets. The couple was safely escorted to the airport following the incident.
Social Media Challenges
In the interview, Aguilar also touched on the attacks his children, Ángela and Leonardo, face on social media. He noted that while he is accustomed to criticism, exposure to public scrutiny can be particularly challenging for them.
Drawing strength from his father’s legacy, he has sought to guide his children through these difficult times.

When asked about a possible reconciliation with his son Emiliano, Aguilar maintained a hopeful outlook:
“I am always going to wish my children the best in life. If the best thing for him is to reconcile with me, then so be it.”
