10 November 2023 at 07:32 Parts of Østmarka in Oslo and Akershus become a national park The government establishes Østmarka National Park and Østmarka outdoor recreation area in Oslo and its surroundings. In this way, an area of a total of 71 square kilometers is protected. – We protect Østmarka both to preserve nature itself and to ensure that the population in the future has access to more intact nature for recreation, outdoor life and physical activity. Vernet also contributes to reaching the new global target of 30 per cent conservation. This protection is good for nature, good for people and good for public health, says Climate and Environment Minister Andreas Bjelland Eriksen (Ap) in a press release. Thus, for the first time, a national park close to a city is being created. Østmarka National Park is protected under the Natural Diversity Act and covers 54 square kilometers in the municipalities of Oslo, Nordre Follo, Lørenskog, Rælingen and Enebakk.
