The Rising Star: Nelson Deossa in the Football Spotlight
Following the performance of Rayados de Monterrey at the Club World Cup, several squad players have begun to attract the attention of teams from different parts of the world. One of the most prominent names is that of Colombian midfielder Nelson Deossa , who, after participating in four matches of the tournament—including draws against Inter Milan and River Plate, as well as a disputed confrontation against Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16—was solidified as one of the most observed talents of the group led by Domenec Torrent.

Deossa’s performance not only positioned him in the orbit of European clubs such as Real Betis, who made an offer considered insufficient by the Mexican club, but also made him a target of significant clubs in South America.
And, according to Brazilian media, Palmeiras has intensified its interest, motivated by the need to cover Richard Ríos’ vacancy, who transferred to Benfica for 30 million euros (about 32.5 million dollars).
In response to Ríos’ departure and in search of a player with similar characteristics to face both the Brasileirão and the Copa Libertadores , Palmeiras sees in Nelson Deossa the ideal profile, sharing nationality, age, and style of play with the transferred player.
As explained by journalist Felipe Sierra, The Paulista club is preparing an approximate offer of 16 million dollars (around 14.7 million euros) for the Colombian transfer. The amount would align with the expectations of Rayados, who previously rejected a 10 million euro offer (approximately 10.8 million dollars) from Betis and reported that they required a figure of at least 15 million to initiate negotiations. The termination clause, however, stands at 20 million dollars (about 18.4 million euros).
The interest in Deossa is backed by his performance since arriving in Monterrey in January 2025. During this time, the midfielder featured in 29 games across the Clausura Tournament of the MX League, the Concachampions , and the Club World Cup itself, contributing seven goals and an assist. These indicators bolster his attractiveness in the international market.
The tournament served as an invaluable platform for Rayados de Monterrey, particularly for players like Deossa, allowing them to showcase their competitive level against world-class rivals and positioning themselves on the radar of powerful teams from both Europe and America.
Deossa was a standout player in the tournament during the group stage with CF Monterrey. In a crucial match against Urawa Red Diamonds (from Group E), the Colombian opened the scoring with a spectacular shot from over 30 meters. This stunning goal contributed to a 4-0 victory that secured the team’s progression to the round of 16.
Besides his goal, Deossa played a pivotal role in the midfield, starting from the first game against Inter Milan , where he led in key metrics such as wins, recoveries, and fouls suffered. His exemplary control of the game and defensive contributions earned him accolades and allowed him to establish himself as the “engine” of the Monterrey team, demonstrating high accuracy and recovery rates throughout the matches.
In the round of 16, Monterrey faced Borussia Dortmund and succumbed to a 2-1 defeat. Nevertheless, Deossa’s performance remained stellar, garnering international recognition and interest from various European and South American clubs, solidifying his status as a rising talent after this high-profile tournament.
