31 July 2024 at 08:37 UN: Palestinian prisoners exposed to torture by Israel Palestinian prisoners in Israel have mostly been held captive in secret, and in some cases subjected to treatment that may amount to torture, according to a UN report. – Testimonies collected by my office and other organizations indicate a number of terrible acts, including water torture and cases where dogs have been let loose on prisoners, says UN human rights chief Volker Türk, according to Reuters. He calls this a clear violation of international human rights and international humanitarian law. According to the report, over 9,400 people were in “preventive custody” at the end of June. Some of them have not had access to lawyers, and their legal rights have not been respected, writes the UN.
