Just before 04.30 last night, Bane Nor received word that an excavator had tipped over the rail on the section between Fauske and Oteråga, just east of Bodø. The excavator blocks the track, thus stopping all train traffic between Fauske and Bodø. This means that all passenger and freight trains must stop at Fauske. – We have a truck and an excavator on site. They are working to move the overturned excavator off the track. Furthermore, we must have the rail corridor examined to see if it is possible to run trains there, says press officer Anne Kirkhusmo to news. In order to remove the excavator, they will have to block national highway 80 between Fauske and Bodø for a period as well, reports the Swedish Traffic Agency. They write that national highway 80 will be closed on the section Fauske – Tverlandet for a few hours from 1 p.m. The road is still closed. New update comes at 16:30, writes Bane Nor on its website. The recommended detour is via county road 812 about Misvær Bus for train As for the trains, it will take some time to clarify the situation, Bane Nor writes on its website. – We expect to have made a new assessment around 2pm, says Anne Kirkhusmo. SJ Norge, which operates the passenger trains on the Nordlandsbanen, has introduced a bus for trains between Bodø and Fauske. – We turn our trains around at Fauske. It is of course regrettable that this is happening, but we will in any case get the buses working as they should and hope for the least possible delays for our passengers, says information manager at SJ Norge, Hilde Lyng. She can also inform that the passengers who are to be transported by bus from Bodø to Fauske at 1pm will be released because of the roadblocks, so that they can take the train from Fauske. The two people who were in the excavator when it overturned were sent to the emergency room for a check-up.
