13 May 2023 at 18:02 Over 200 dead have been found on the property of a pastor in Kenya Kenyan police are finding more and more bodies on the property of a self-proclaimed pastor who is charged with terrorism. The death toll passed 200 on Saturday. Excavations in the Shakahola forest in south-east Kenya began on 21 April after the pastor was arrested. Spokesperson Rhoda Onyancha in the regional authorities says on Saturday that a further 22 bodies have been exhumed. This means that the police have found the remains of a total of 201 people on the large estate of Paul Nthenge Mackenzie. The pastor is said to have encouraged his disciples to starve themselves to death “to meet Jesus”. A total of 26 people have been arrested in the case, according to Onyancha. Many of the victims are children, and according to coroners, most of them show signs of having starved to death. Some of the children also appear to have been beaten and strangled to death. The pastor is said to have not taken a stand on the charges against him, but his lawyer says he is cooperating with the police. (NTB)
