Recently, Innlandet County Council decided to close six schools. It created strong reactions. Now Østfold faces the same process. On Monday, the county presented two proposals for how this can be done. These are some of the cut proposals in solution proposal A: Abolish Borg VGS, Sarpsborg. 750 pupils Discontinue Kalnes VGS, Sarpsborg. 185 pupils Discontinue Health and early childhood subjects at Greåker VGS. These are some of the cut proposals in solution proposal B: Abolish Borg VGS, Sarpsborg. Discontinue Greåker VGS, Sarpsborg. 1,200 pupils According to the county council, Solution A will save NOK 175 million. Solution proposal B will save the county NOK 184 million. Common to both proposals: Discontinue VG3 extension to the study competence offer from Askim VGS, St. Olav VGS and at Kirkeparken VGS. Discontinue Crafts, design and product development at Glemmen VGS. Discontinue Sales, service and tourism at St. Olav VGS. Discontinue Information technology and media production at Halden VGS. Discontinue restaurant and food subjects at Halden VGS. Discontinue Hairdressing, flowers, interior and exposure design at Mysen VGS. In both proposed solutions, the county council will also take a closer look at the two upper secondary schools in Fredrikstad. It is being considered to make Glemmen VGS and Fredrik II VGS into one administrative unit. Skjeberg folk high school is also recommended to be closed down. – Very dramatic The principals and shop stewards at the affected schools were informed of the situation on Monday. It will still be possible for the county council to change the proposed solutions. What has now been put forward will be discussed with union representatives, and the schools will be heard in another round. They are very extensive and affect many people, so there is no doubt that there is great seriousness in this case, says Rønningen in the county council. The final decision on what will and will not be closed will be decided by the county politicians in Østfold at the beginning of December.
