Oslo woman found dead after patient transport – news Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

The woman was sent from Diakonhjemmet hospital to a health centre, and left outside. Some time later, the woman is called by the health center, and the Diakonhjemmet replies that she was picked up from there earlier that day. When no one could find her, the police were called in and a search operation was launched. The police tell news that they received a missing person report at 20.54, and that a search was launched at 21.08. A search was carried out with a helicopter and cars. The next morning the woman was found dead. That night the temperatures were down to minus nine degrees. The patient was found some distance from the health center, news is informed. – This is absolutely terrible. There is nothing else to say about it. In one place or another there has been a failure, says head of department Veslemøy Garmark at Diakonhjemmet hospital to news. It was VG who mentioned the matter first. Explaining how the dialogue was, Garmark tells news that they believed the order from them to Pasionreiser was precise. She says that an individual assessment is made for each patient when ordering transport. – In this case, it was considered that when you ticked the box that the patient should be accompanied to and from the means of transport, then it was satisfactory. – What does that mean? – That the patient is accompanied here by a nurse to the means of transport and then transported to the health centre. – Who will receive? – I cannot answer what the routine is like at the health centre. What happened in this case was that the nurse called the health center to say that the patient was coming. Two hours later, the health center contacted us and said that the patient had not arrived. The nurse then contacted the transporter, who told them that he had delivered the patient to the health centre, says Garmark. The hospital says they were told that the patient had been followed into the building. – According to our information, the driver stated that the patient had been followed in, says Garmark. She says it is too early to say where the failure has occurred. And whether the hospital has done everything they were supposed to. Who is responsible? The Norwegian Health Authority has been notified. The hospital and health center have started internal investigations. The case is also being investigated by the State Administrator in Oslo and Viken. The Oslo police district has started an investigation. – This is a very sad case, and on a general basis we can say that the person who requests patient transport bears the responsibility for ensuring that Patient Travel receives enough information to enable them to carry out the assignment in a safe manner, says Hedda Holth, press officer at Oslo University Hospital. – The drivers must not have the patient’s diagnosis, but need enough information in the form to understand the patient’s needs. Like they can’t be left to themselves. We have asked for an explanation from the supplier company in this case, says Holth.
