The Norwegian Meteorological Institute warns of a lot of snow, wind and rain in Southern and Eastern Norway over the next few days. It has now been upgraded to an orange danger warning in some places. – This applies west of Oslo to a little into Agder. Mostly in Vestfold, Telemark and parts of Viken, says state meteorologist Elin Tronvoll. There may be precipitation corresponding to 25 to 40 centimeters of snow. – It is a bit uncertain what kind of rainfall will come in Agder. The way it looks now, there will be some rain and sleet, before it turns to snow, says Tronvoll. Freezing rain It will vary between snow, sleet and rain on the coast. It will also be slippery in many places. – Ahead of the precipitation to come, there is a possibility of rain along the coast in the south. It can therefore become slippery as a result of freezing rain, says Tronvoll. The rain that comes will freeze to ice on the ground, on vehicles and other objects. The precipitation will change to snow in many places during Wednesday morning. There is a risk of ice in parts of Agder and Telemark from late tonight. This is due to rain freezing on the ground or freezing rain. Photo: Meteorological Institute – Southern Norway will be the most challenging today. Where will it snow and where will it rain is the big question, says Tronvoll. Especially from Grimstad and eastward overnight to Wednesday it can be slippery. The most rainfall is expected in Southern Norway. On Tuesday, the meteorologists suggest that there may be a total of 150 millimeters of rain until Sunday. Locally there may be more. – Locally, it can change from snow to rain, and that it will be slippery tomorrow as well. In some places, there may be up to 150 mm of rain until Sunday. From the afternoon, the snow line drops. So you won’t be going far inland before it snows on Tuesday evening and night. – Otherwise there are traffic challenges related to the snow and some wind in the mountains, says Tronvoll. In the mountains, there is a risk of snow drifts. – Perhaps from this evening and tonight the wind and snow may increase. But it will mostly be tomorrow. – Keep your distance Traffic operator Ole-Petter Ruud at Vegtrafikksentralen south says it is important that people prepare and follow the weather forecast. – Regardless of how experienced a driver you are, this weather can be unpleasant to drive in, once it’s really slippery. Make sure you are out in plenty of time, if you have to go out first. The challenge for those going out to work with plowing and operation will be the temperatures, Ruud believes. – The distinction goes from plus to minus degrees, and the amount of precipitation becomes challenging. – We get some of those days here during a winter season, so it should go well. We have routines and contingency plans for this, which the contractors are well familiar with. If you have to travel over the mountain, there may be convoys. Increases preparedness Agder Energi has decided on Tuesday afternoon that they will increase preparedness as a result of the predicted snowy weather. Press contact Lars Fredheim says there may be an increased risk of power outages and other damage. – There can be a heavy load on lines and posts, and damage to this depending on how much snow settles. This can pose a traffic hazard for animals and people. The power company is now on yellow alert. – This means that we are extra vigilant as a result of the current weather forecasts. Strong wind A yellow danger warning has also been issued for strong gusts of wind in parts of Rogaland, Vestland and Møre og Romsdal – There may be local gusts of 27 to 30 meters per second. It applies from Wednesday morning to Wednesday evening, says meteorologist Dina Stabell. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute recommends that people secure loose objects and avoid unnecessary traffic in exposed areas. In the mountains, there will be snow. The next few days will also be windy in Trøndelag and Nordland, the meteorologists report. Up to a strong gale is expected from Wednesday, and chances of storm strength at the weekend. Then Troms and Finnmark will also feel the strong wind.
