Opens study admissions for Ukrainian refugees – news Troms and Finnmark

– It is a very good opportunity for Ukrainian students. Many young people have fled Ukraine due to the war, and they need to continue their studies. It says Ukrainian Anna Skrypalshchykova. She has studied at UiT Norway’s Arctic University in Alta since 2020. Skrypalshchykova remembers that it was a long process when she applied for a study place in Norway, and therefore appreciates that the university has now arranged for Ukrainian refugees. The government has put in place a solution that gives the Ukrainian refugees the opportunity to apply for an extraordinary study admission this autumn. – Great willingness to stand up for this group Already in March, the Ministry of Education asked all universities and colleges to register capacity to receive additional students from Ukraine. Based on this, the government has increased the budgets so that a total of 1,000 extra study places can be offered at 23 educational institutions. NTNU, the University of Bergen and the University of Oslo get most of the extra places. Here is the distribution of the new study places: Universities North University: 40 NMBU: 30 NTNU: 140 OsloMet: 80 UiT – Norwegian Arctic University: 40 University of Agder: 40 University of Bergen: 125 University of Oslo: 100 University of Stavanger: 50 University in Southeast Norway: 70 Scientific colleges Oslo School of Architecture and Design: 8 MF University College of Science: 6 Molde University College: 30 Oslo Academy of the Arts: 2 Norwegian School of Economics: 15 Norwegian Academy of Music: 4 VID University College of Science: 10 Inland University Colleges: 50 Volda University College: 10 Østfold University College: 30 Kristiania University College: 50 Western Norway University College: 50 NLA University College: 20 State Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Oddmund Løkensgard Hoel, writes to news that there is a great willingness among educational institutions to stand up for this group. – Many institutions have already started up or made plans for customized courses, seminars, summer schools and the like. Hoel emphasizes that although the war in Ukraine has triggered these study places, the admission does not differentiate between nationalities. It should also be open to other refugees. – Part of the national charity UiT has since March received several inquiries from Ukrainian students, and since then they have worked to create an offer. – We asked the faculties to look at what programs they can make available for an extraordinary admission so that we can make an offer to the Ukrainian refugees who come. It is part of the national charity event, says department director at UiT, Heidi Adolfsen. Kristian Stave believes it is important that refugees have the opportunity to study. It was after being in contact with a friend who moved from Kyiv that he decided to write a resolution that Ukrainian refugees should be allowed to study in Norway. – It would have been tragic that she, as a well-educated lawyer, would stay in an asylum reception center if she were to come here. Stave is therefore pleased with the offer UiT has made, especially that Ukrainian refugees escape the financial demands placed on international students. Heidi Adolfsen, department director at UiT, says that several courses, master’s studies and two bachelors are available in English. At UiT in Alta, Ukrainian Anna Skrypalshchykova is ready to receive the Ukrainian students. – I already have a lot of information about how things go at the university here in Alta, so I will welcome them, she says.
