The Coast Guard stated that the plane was en route from Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands to Renton on Lake Washington, not far from the Seattle airport, when it crashed at Whidbey Island, six miles northwest of Seattle. The coast guard says that one person has been found dead, and that nine are still missing. The aircraft is of the type DHC-3 Otter. There are a number of daily flights between the San Juan Islands, which are a popular area for tourists and vacationers, and the Seattle area. (NTB)
