The acquitted is a 19-year-old woman who has previously claimed that she was asleep when the murder happened. However, she has been sentenced to prison for one year and six months for desecration of a corpse after the appeal has been processed in the Swedish Court of Appeal (hovrätten), reports Aftonbladet. Her co-defendant, a 20-year-old woman, has had her life sentence reduced to 16 years in prison. She has announced that she will appeal again. Sentenced to life The 21-year-old Tove was found murdered in a wooded area outside Vetlanda. She disappeared in mid-October in 2022, after she was on the town with the other two women. The two women were quickly suspected in the case, and were arrested by the police. They were initially only suspected of abducting the woman, and were detained on 20 October. It was not until 2 November that the police found Tove’s body, after investigations into the 20-year-old’s phone. The charges were then expanded to murder. Both women were sentenced to life in prison in April this year. The two women during the trial against them earlier this year. They then allegedly dumped her friend’s body in a forest clearing. After denying everything for a long time, the 20-year-old admitted that she held her arms around Tove’s neck before she died. However, she has claimed that it was an accident, and has denied criminal guilt. The 18-year-old claimed she slept through this incident. She further claims that she did not dare to say no when the 20-year-old asked her for help to move the body. According to the public prosecutor’s office, there had been a long-term conflict between the murder victim and the oldest woman up front, but the public prosecutor’s office has found no evidence that the murder was planned.
