For several years, the dilapidated house at Mittet in Rauma has been empty and last year it collapsed. The house was in such a poor condition that the heirs of the death arch refused to accept. Rauma municipality took over responsibility and put the house up for auction. There was only one person who grazed after a year. – I thought I could do it and offered NOK 10, says Ole Erik Holsbøvåg (24). Thus he became the owner of a run-down haunted house and Rauma municipality got rid of a problem. It was Åndalsnes newspaper that first told the story. Refurbish a gutter The electrician is no stranger to bad houses. In 2021, he bought a detached house for 800,000 that he couldn’t afford to live in. He has spent thousands of hours renovating it to be able to move in. He still sees no potential in his newest purchase. The house must simply be leveled with the ground. The first step is to demolish the house, sort the material and clear the plot. – It’s a nice place to build a holiday home, says the 24-year-old. His grandparents had a cottage nearby and he has many good memories from it. Eventually, it may be that he set up a secondary residence on the plot. What is it like to have bought a plot of land for just NOK 10? – Actually, it was just supposed to be missing, the way the plot looked. There is a lot of work to clean up, says Holsbøvåg. None of the heirs would accept the house, which had a negative value, with demolition costs and clean-up. Photo: Ottar Rydjord According to a valuation report from 2022, the plot was worth NOK 170,000. It was also estimated that it would cost NOK 300,000 to demolish the house, which at that time had not completely collapsed. In total, the value of the property thus ended at NOK -130,000. The estimate engineer specified that the price of the demolition would be uncertain until a concrete offer for the work was received. Happy with the initiative Mayor of Rauma municipality, Yvonne Wold (SV), says that it is great for the municipality that someone would take over the property and get something done there. – As long as the municipality has not had the capacity to clear and develop the plot itself, I am very happy that Ole Erik has the courage to go ahead and has bought it, says Wold. The mayor of Rauma, Yvonne Wold, cheers on the enthusiasm of the house buyer. There is hardly any land in Rauma, according to the mayor, and this means that there is potential in the plot, she believes. – This is how district development works, says Wold.
