The mild weather has started to move into southern Norway. – Then it really hits on Tuesday. That’s what meteorologist on duty Ingvild Villa says. Climate researcher Hans Olav Hygen has noticed the change in weather: – I happened to be in Østerdalen at the weekend and it dropped to 28 degrees in the valley there. Now it has been announced that those areas will rise to 0 degrees, he says. In other words, you get a jump of 25-30 degrees. According to the climate scientist, it does not happen more often than before, but we notice it more: Because it has generally become warmer, the chance of crossing the zero point is much greater now than 20-30 years ago, says Hygen. – And we notice very well when it crosses the zero point, because then the snow starts to melt, says the climate scientist. Plus-speed and demanding driving conditions on the E39 in Åsane in Bergen earlier this winter. The Norwegian Climate Service Center has made calculations of the phenomenon of zero crossings. It shows that the lowlands towards the coast will experience a decrease in the number of zero crossings, because it will mostly stay above zero. – While in the interior, on the mountain and Finnmarksvidda, we expect an increase in the number of zero crossings, says Hygen. Around Oslo, we will still see a small increase in zero crossings. Eventually we will see a decrease in the number of zero crossings, because it will be too hot. Snow above 1,600 meters In many places in Eastern Norway, there is still a lot of snow, but the precipitation that comes in the next few days will mostly be rain. And you have to climb the peaks to get fresh snow. – On Tuesday, you have to go over 1,600 meters to get snow, says meteorologist on duty Ingvild Villa. Storms in the north While it will be milder in the south, there will be a lot of weather further north. A yellow warning for both wind and rain means that Nordland is steeling itself for a shaky start to the week. Among other things, storm warnings and up to 100 mm of rain in 24 hours are expected. – It is absolutely true that there is a lot of weather this week. There is a lot of wind, especially in the far north towards Lofoten and Vesterålen.
