After a taste of spring in many parts of the country, there is again a need to find the winter coat. With the exception of the far coast in Vestland and Rogaland, subzero temperatures are reported, says state meteorologist Magnus Ovhed. According to the state meteorologist, this is the start of a longer cold period. It will be cold all week, and maybe even into next week. – A cold air mass has arrived from the Arctic Ocean and it will remain for a while. Ovhed says that there may be some blips of mild weather in the far south, but that the cold period will be felt across the country. In Øystre Slidre in the interior, it was minus 15 degrees on Monday morning. – It was windless and fine, but after an hour it was good to get back inside so that cold feet and toes could be thawed, writes the photographer. Photo: Tonje Cecilie Tveten Lund Coldest in the north It was the Finnmarking that woke up to the lowest temperatures this morning. It was coldest at Cuovddatmohkki on Finnmarksvidda. 34.1 minus degrees were measured there last night. Cuovddatmohkki is a hamlet located southwest of Karasjok, almost 300 meters above sea level. It is not the first time it has been cold for the inhabitants of Finnmarksvidda. The cold record in this country is from 1886 when a total of 51.4 blue was measured in Karasjok. In southern Norway, Folldal municipality in Østerdalen is the coldest. There the day started with 27.9 degrees Celsius. Inland areas in Nordland are also expected to drop to minus 30 degrees. Heavy snow The state meteorologist reports heavy snow showers along the coast. In the next few days, this snowy weather will move from Finnmark and south towards Western Norway. While there will be limited snow in Rogaland, residents of Agder must prepare for heavy rainfall. Over the next 24 hours, 10-20 cm of snow is expected in areas near the coast in Agder. – If we are unlucky, it can get really bad with wind, snow and snow drifts. It can get bad on the roads, says state meteorologist Ovhed. Between 10 and 20 cm of snow is expected in coastal areas in Agder. Photo: Meteorological Institute It is the coastal areas from Lindesnes to Arendal that suffer the worst. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow warning. They advise people to allow extra time for transport and driving. They also ask that people use the right tires and drive according to the conditions. The snow is expected from late Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon. But the rest of the week will also be low temperatures in Southern Norway. – It will be a cold week, no doubt about it, we are in a very cold northerly wind now with low temperatures, says State Meteorologist Wahl. For the time being, it does not appear that the snowy weather will move in towards the mountain passes in southern Norway.
