10 December 2023 at 10:56 Ruud supports the IOC’s Russia decision: – It would have been unfair if they were not allowed Tennis profile Casper Ruud supports the IOC’s decision to allow Russians and Belarusians in next year’s Olympics in Paris. He nevertheless admits that it will be special. On Friday, the news broke that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided that Russian and Belarusian athletes can participate in the Olympics in Paris this summer as neutrals. Ruud competes against several Russian profiles on the ATP tour, and the Norwegian has always been positive that they will be allowed to participate. – It is a difficult and sensitive area to enter. I have been very open and positive about them taking part in the ATP tour. They play and compete without a flag and have publicly said that they are against the war, says Ruud in an interview with Eurosport. The tennis ace also says that he would find it unfair if stars such as Daniil Medvedev and Andrej Rublev were not allowed to participate in the Paris Games. – They live in other countries, and they represent themselves more than a country in many ways. The Olympics are something a little different, and there is a lot more politics involved. I have to say in many ways that it would have been unfair if they had not been allowed to participate. There are probably many wise minds behind the decision, so I have nothing against it. It will still be a special atmosphere, admits Ruud. (© NTB)
