Norwegian buys Widerøe – news Nordland

– This is a milestone in Norwegian aviation history. Our two airlines have operated side by side for many years and no one knows the airline market in Norway better. With this transaction, we will now create a streamlined and more comprehensive offer, including our leading Norwegian Reward program, to all customers throughout Norway and abroad. We look forward to offering seamless journeys across our entire route network, says Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian. In a stock exchange announcement from Oslo Børs, it is stated that Norwegian group will buy Widerøe for NOK 1.125 billion. Widerøe is Scandinavia’s largest regional airline with over 2,000 employees, and was established in 1934. Dagens Næringsliv first wrote about the matter. There will be a press conference in Oslo at 10:00 a.m. on the matter, Widerøe says. They do not want to make a statement before that time. – Widerøe has a nearly 90-year history, and we are the guarantor of a well-functioning grid in regional Norway. Although we have a solid footprint in Norway, we are smaller in an international context. The tax level for flights in Norway is particularly high, and this, in combination with fierce international competition, makes it difficult for a smaller regional airline to endure without a strong partner. We are therefore very happy to now join forces with Norwegian, and we are happy to have an industrial owner who wants to develop both companies further. We are convinced that this solution is in the best interests of Widerøe, our employees, and not least our customers, says Stein Nilsen, Managing Director of Widerøe in Børsmeldinga.
