Norway received twice as many Ukrainians as Sweden and Denmark in September – news Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

On 27 September this year, the government introduced new measures to limit immigration from Ukraine. People who come from six counties in the west of the country are no longer entitled to collective protection. Increasing numbers of refugees from both safe and unsafe areas in Ukraine. Now figures from UDI show that Norway received more people in September than Denmark and Sweden combined. 2,128 came to Norway, 1,013 to Denmark, 828 to Sweden. Erlend Wiborg believes that the government must tighten up further on Ukrainian immigration. He is the immigration policy spokesperson in the party. He believes that higher benefits for those who come here to the country are the reason why more Ukrainians come to Norway than to the other Nordic countries. – There must be a certain distribution of the burden. We must ensure that Norwegian benefits are never higher than in our neighboring countries. The Progress Party believes that benefits for Ukrainians and other refugees must be regulated so that they are at the same level as in Sweden, Denmark and Finland. – It must not be higher, says Wiborg. Tonje Brenna is Minister for Employment and Inclusion. Photo: Ole Berg-Rusten / NTB – Will lead to more unrest Tonje Brenna is Minister for Employment and Inclusion from the Labor Party. She believes that the demands from Wiborg and FRP will take Norway in the wrong direction. – Creating a system that makes it as difficult as possible for those who come here, as the Frp wants, is not the solution, believes Brenna. She points out that what Wiborg refers to as a benefit is money you get while you participate in a program as a prerequisite for work. – The recipe for Wiborg will lead to fewer people learning Norwegian, fewer people coming to work and fewer people being integrated into Norwegian society, writes Brenna in an e-mail to news. She believes that the demands from the FRP are the recipe for more noise and social unrest in Norway. Tightening up on 27 September, the government came out and said that they have tightened up their Ukraine policy. That policy is fixed and Norway must stand up for Ukraine, both civilly and militarily, asserts Tonje Brenna. – But we will not accept more people than we manage to integrate in Norway, writes Brenna in the e-mail to news. On the other hand, Erlend Wiborg in the FRP believes that the September figures show that the policy is not strict enough. He points out that the FRP also supports that Norway should contribute to Ukrainians on the run, with military equipment and humanitarian aid. – But we are completely at the maximum limit of what Norway has the capacity for, he believes. – Pointless The Progress Party also believes that it is completely pointless for Norway to provide protection to Ukrainians capable of fighting. – Ukraine needs its soldiers badly. Then we cannot accept that people who avoid military service should be protected, says Erlend Wiborg. He believes that the government must help ensure that those who are capable of fighting and called up for military service stay in Ukraine to defend their country. – Then the places we have in Norway will go to women, children and others who need protection. Tonje Brenna, on the other hand, is most concerned that those who come here should quickly become part of Norwegian society. – I want people to work and for the jobs to be in serious working life. That is why we qualify people, writes Brenna. Published 29/10/2024, at 05.26
