18 February 2023 at 17:40 Norway gives an extra NOK 100 million to the earthquake victims Norway gives an extra NOK 100 million in support of the earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria. That is what Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (Ap) tells news. Norway is thus increasing the humanitarian support after the earthquakes in to a total of NOK 250 million. In addition, Norway has given a total of NOK 500 million to the UN Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) and the Red Cross Federation’s Emergency Relief Fund (DREF) in 2022. They have so far released around NOK 545 million for this disaster – of which every tenth kroner is from Norway. The Norwegian Defense Forces have also sent a Hercules transport plane to Turkey to assist with the medical evacuation of injured persons and the transport of emergency aid after the earthquakes. Following reports of an increasing number of dead and injured, the Norwegian government has decided to allocate 100 million extra for relief work. The death toll from the earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria passed 46,000 on Saturday. – The Norwegian support contributes to health care, shelter, food, medicines, psychosocial support and protection, among other things. – The earthquakes are the worst natural disaster in a European country in 100 years, says Huitfeldt.
