During Monday’s British prime minister’s visit to Bergen, it became known that Norway will contribute a new Ukraine package of NOK 2.7 billion to strengthen the Ukrainian navy. The package is part of the Nansen program for Ukraine. Among other things, the funds will be used to protect people in Ukraine against attacks, mine clearance and training of Ukrainian soldiers. Norway and Great Britain jointly lead the Maritime Capability Coalition for Ukraine, one of several coalitions formed to help the Ukrainian defense in the war against Russia. – Ukraine needs more support to weaken the Russian maritime forces in the Black Sea going forward. It is necessary to protect the Ukrainian population and infrastructure against attacks from the Russian Black Sea fleet, says Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap).
