They must be fired from both the east and west of the country. Earlier, residents of the South Korean island of Ulleungdo were told to seek refuge after North Korea fired three short-range ballistic missiles. The South Korean news agency Yonhap writes that one flew towards the island of Ulleungdo, halfway between South Korea and Japan, before landing in international waters in the Sea of Japan. Air raids were announced on state television and the residents of Ulleungdo were asked to seek refuge in the nearest underground shelter. North Korea previously threatened to use nuclear weapons in response to joint US-South Korean military exercises, which Pyongyang says are “aggressive and provocative”.
