The first time he saw a horror movie as a boy, he didn’t sleep for a couple of weeks. Over thirty years later, Martin Furulund from Mortensrud in Oslo plays a major role in the magnificent American horror film “The last voyage of the Demeter”. – What is happening now is like a fairy tale and incredibly cool, says the actor who never thought that his great desire to become an actor would lead him all the way to Hollywood. Seen by 10 million The blockbuster, which premieres in August, is directed by the Norwegian André Øvredal, who was behind Trolljegeren in 2010. He says that he was first allowed to audition in London and that he had to submit a separate video. It was his agent, Martin Braathen, who got him the audition through Gold Casting in London. And luckily, they liked his portrayal. Trained carpenter Opprinnelg is an Oslo man trained as a carpenter, but always had a dream of becoming an actor. After his education at NISS, he got a job at Haugesund theatre, and in recent years has been a freelancer with roles in films such as Kraftidioten and Hodejegerne. He has also played in TV series such as Eyewitness and Okkupert. He lives in Grünerløkka in Oslo, and has no intention of becoming an American. And getting to work with such a skilled director as Andre Øvredal was absolutely raw. With such a large production company as Amblin behind him, he also got to experience what it was like to be looked after in a Hollywood film. Several of the co-actors have become his close friends and he himself says that this recording has become a great memory for life. But this is the first time he himself plays in a horror film. – It’s very cool to play in a horror film and not least a Dracula film, he says. He adds that what is special about this film is that it is based on a small part of Bram Stoker’s 1897 short story about Dracula, “Captain’s log”. In short, it’s about a ship, the Demeter, with a small crew that brings an uninvited guest on its journey from Varna in Bulgaria to England, he says. – It becomes quite claustrophobic because everything takes place on a ship out on the open sea. Furulund plays the mate who has the main responsibility on deck. He is now looking forward to the premiere on 11 August in the USA and 18 August in Norway, and believes that André Øvredal is a master at making scary films. Every night the crew on board experience strange, terrifying things happening. – And I can promise that our version of Dracula, played by Javier Botet Lopez, is going to be downright scary, he concludes.
