Nordfjord Kjøtt is recalling several different products on Friday. It is happening after suspicions were strengthened last week that hamburgers from Nordfjord are the source of infection for an ongoing outbreak of E. coli. The new products being withdrawn are: Hamburger classic (Best before date 08.03.2024, 09.03.2024, 29.03.2024, 30.03.2024, 01.04.2024) Prima Hamburger (Best before date 21.01.2024, 25.03.2024, 30.03.2024, 31.03.2024, 06.04.2024) Triple cheese hamburger (Best before date 26.03.2024) Bacon Burger (Best before date 22.01.2024, 05.02.2024) Meat dough 14% (Last day of use 21.07.2023) Carbonade dough (Last use-by day 25.03.2023, 26.03.2023, 28.03.2023, 23.07.2023) Meatloaf dough (Last use-by day 15.05.2023) Big Beef burger (Last use-by day 20.07.2023, 22.07.2023) Burger Jalapeño (Last use-by day 14.05.2023, 15/07/2023) The recalled products have been sold at Rema 1000. Warning against eating the products So far, 17 people have been infected with the bacteria E.coli O26. This is one of the largest outbreaks of its kind in Norway since 2006. Dangerous E. coli bacteria, such as EHEC, are found in some cattle and sheep and can get onto the meat during slaughter. It takes very few bacteria to cause illness in people. On the basis of suspicions from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority about bacteria in raw materials, Nordfjord Kjøtt AS is recalling frozen Hamburger Classic best before 24.03.24 and 25.03.24 and Big Beef Burger Thick and Juicy with the last day of consumption 16.07.23 according to the precautionary principle. The E. coli bacteria tolerate freezing well, which is why the Norwegian Food Safety Authority warns against eating products “that may be dangerous to health”. – E.coli can cause serious illness, and even if you overcook the products, you can become infected during preparation. We therefore ask that everyone follow the manufacturer’s advice to throw away the products or return them to the store, says Turid Michelle Berglund, senior advisor at the Norwegian Food Safety Authority. Does not rule out that more products will be withdrawn The suspicion of the products that have now been withdrawn has been strengthened as a result of new patient interviews and extensive tracing work in the food chain, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority informs. – It cannot be ruled out that other products will also be withdrawn, says Catherine Signe Svindland in the Norwegian Food Safety Authority. It cannot be ruled out that other products will also be withdrawn, says Catherine Signe Svindland, senior advisor in the biological food safety section of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.
