No public holidays on the “wrong” day of the week in 2024 – news Rogaland – Local news, TV and radio

A quick look at the calendar for 2024 reveals that: Good start The year starts with January 1 falling on a Monday, where this year it fell on a Sunday. As a result, the Christmas holiday is extended an extra day compared to 2023. Early Easter Easter 2024 falls in week 13, i.e. the end of March, and April Fools’ Day is not played in the country’s schools and workplaces as 1 April is also Easter 2nd. The Easter holidays will also be time for setting the clock. Summer time in Norway begins on Easter Sunday, March 31, and we switch back to winter time on October 27. Four-day weekend in May A month after Easter, you get a small break in the middle of the week, when Workers’ Day 1 May – or “public holiday”, as it is officially called – falls on a Wednesday. It is followed by a month full of public holidays: Ascension Day is Thursday 9 May, before 17 May falls on the following Friday and is followed by Pentecost on the same weekend. Both Friday 17 and Monday 20 May are therefore public holidays with closed schools and shops. May 17 party at Storhaug in Stavanger this year. This sandwiched day is missing in 2024. Sandwiched Christmas After this, as usual, there are no red days in the calendar until Christmas peace descends on the world. In 2024, Christmas Eve falls on a Tuesday, and thus Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on Wednesday and Thursday. This means that the 27th is a packed day. Next year there will be plenty of time to shop for Christmas presents. In return, they can get an extra day squeezed in between Thursday 1 May and the following weekend, thanks to the quirks of the Norwegian calendar. The 17 May train in Stavanger will run on a Saturday in 2025. This also applies to the rest of the country. For the Swedes, the public holiday falls on Christmas Day 13, as it falls on a Saturday, but in return the national day on June 6 falls on a Thursday. Americans and Brits mostly nail their public holidays to a weekday, but many Americans can get a long weekend in July – Independence Day, 4 July, falls on a Thursday.
