NM winner Isene had to screw up the kneecap after nightmare injury – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

– It’s a relief. It is incredibly nice to perform when it comes to the long injury period throughout the winter, says Ola Stunes Isene to news. It is only recently that he has managed to lengthen the casts. The NM gold was won after a throw of 60.86 meters – about seven meters worse than his personal record set in 2019. He would probably have been even closer to the best record if he did not injure himself badly during training in November last year. When he was about to rotate and throw the discus, the kneecap split in two and went out of position. One part turned 90 degrees around. – I land on the ground and look at my knee, and think it is out of joint because the kneecap is on the side of the leg. I straighten the piece while I push it back, I still have a lot of adrenaline, but I shout and I don’t feel so well, Isene explains. TWO PARTS: The largest part of the kneecap had Ola Stunes Isene twisted back into position. The youngest stood up straight. But then he discovered that the smallest piece, which can be seen in the picture to the right, stood straight up from the knee. – Then I realized that it was a little more serious. Then I waited for the ambulance for half an hour and then there was surgery the next day to screw it together. The message from the doctors was crystal clear: No strain in eight to twelve weeks. And at least no rotations. For the first two months, he limped around on crutches, before getting a splint that allowed him to step on flat ground. One of the worst things he experienced was watching the muscles in his right foot disappear in slow motion: – It does not feel good when many years of training disappear day after day, says Isene, who admits that he struggled with motivation. Had never heard of the injury He had two screws inserted to hold the kneecap in place. The twelve weeks of rest that were predicted became five and a half months. At the same time, the right foot shrank to half its normal size. SKRUDD FAST: The kneecap was divided in two. Two screws were inserted to hold them together. Photo: Fredrik Tombra / news – It looks like two terrace screws. You can clearly see the threads in the pictures. It took some time before it calmed down on the screw and then some time to heal. The kneecap fracture came as a result of prolonged strain, but it almost never happens to that part of the body. – At the Olympics, they have not heard of that injury once before. Usually it is because you hit the knee on the ground, break the kneecap and then screw it together, but then it is healthy bone that is screwed together, says Isene – and continues: – Now it was a fatigue fracture, which came after many years of training and pain I did not know came from. In the end, it just cracked. The pain is still there in the knee. But he has become accustomed to it and says it does not inhibit him to a very great extent. He has had enough injuries in recent years – especially after he set a personal record with 67.78 meters in the spring of 2019. Undisputed disco king He claims to have been close to 70 meters in training before the injury, so he is some distance away the potential. He qualified for the finals in both the Doha World Cup in 2019 and the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Then it was 10th and 12th place respectively. But going to the World Cup without a chance to fight for a final place is completely out of the question. – I have had little training for the championship. This spring we did not think it would be a season at all. Even then, it was in my head a little dismissed. – I want better time for training towards the European Championships. I was in the World Cup as a junior, and I do not have to be a tourist there this year either. I want to perform in championships, and to travel all the way to the United States to be a tourist. Then it is better to be a little less touristy in the European Championships. Now it’s all about getting a top spot for the championship in Munich in mid-August. The goal is to be so good that he can fight for a final. However, he thinks the right foot is not quite back to the old level until 2024 … PS! news 1 broadcasts the NM in athletics on Saturday from 16.00 to 18.00 and Sunday from 13.30 to 15.00.
