20 June 2023 at 23:02 Nine Egyptians charged and detained for human smuggling after the boat capsized off Greece Nine Egyptian men have been charged with human smuggling and are detained after a migrant boat capsized off Greece, reports the AFP news agency. The men, who were arrested last week in Kalamata after surviving the boat wreck, appeared in court on Tuesday. They are charged with belonging to a human trafficking ring, for having caused the shipwreck, and for negligent homicide. Only 104 have been found alive after the boat sank off the Greek peninsula of Peloponnese last Wednesday. 82 dead have been found, and there may have been several hundred people on board, so the death toll may rise further. Most were migrants from, among others, Syria and Pakistan, who hoped to get from Libya to Italy. (news/NTB)
