The emergency services were notified of a traffic accident on highway 22 in Rakkestad just before 9 o’clock on Wednesday morning. A tanker has overturned on the side of the road, at the Åstorpveien intersection. The tanker is loaded with asphalt glue which leaks out of the tank. – The driver is bleeding from the head. The person is awake and appears to be slightly injured. The person is being checked by a doctor on the spot, reports police operations manager Jon Erik Nygård. The police are on the scene and assessing the extent of the leak. Rakkestad municipality has been notified. Photo: Freddie Larsen The road can be slippery – We don’t know how long it will take, but we assume that the road will be closed for a long time due to clean-up work, says Thale Eikeset in the Swedish Traffic Agency. The detour will go via Skantebygdaveien and Varteigveien. You can also drive via county road 114 or 115. – Asphalt glue is terribly thick and sticky, says Eikeset. The leakage can cause the road to become slippery. The glue is used to ensure that roofing felt and other asphalt-based materials stick well to the substrate or to each other. The fire brigade secures the area. – Now we are trying to get hold of a suction truck, says duty manager Kjell Nessett in East 110 central. – There is a lot to do here now. The extent is unknown.
