The truce comes into effect on Monday at 21:45 local time, writes Reuters. The parties to the conflict have entered into several ceasefire agreements in the past which have not been respected. The new ceasefire will be monitored by an internationally supported group, according to the agreement that was concluded after negotiations in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. According to the ceasefire agreement, the parties must facilitate humanitarian aid and remove soldiers from the hospitals. Fighting around the Sudanese capital Khartoum has been going on for six weeks and has displaced more than one million people. The UN has warned of the danger of a humanitarian catastrophe. The warring parties are led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan of the government army and General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
