A rescue operation is underway at Store Skagastølstind in Luster. Two climbers, a foreign man and a foreign woman, have come off the path at about 2,200 meters high. The police were notified of the situation just after midnight, and have been in dialogue with the climbers throughout the night. – The climbers are unharmed, but they state that they are wet and cold, says operations manager Tore-Andre Brakstad. They have reported that they have sufficient equipment and clothing with them on the trip. It is not possible to fly to the climbers’ position due to the weather conditions. Three members of the Alpine rescue group have flown as far up the mountain as possible, where they continue on foot. New case in a short time This is not the first time rescuers have had to go to Store Skagastølstind. Just two weeks ago, a similar rescue operation was carried out, when two hikers got into trouble on the same mountain. That time the rescue operation lasted for over 12 hours, before the hikers were taken down. That time too, it was about people who had gotten out of the window on the way up. Store Skagastølstind, also known as Storen, is Norway’s third highest mountain and a popular destination for experienced climbers and hikers. The mountain is known for its demanding conditions, and there have been several cases before where people have needed help to get down. Here is from the previous rescue operation at Store Skagastølstind just two weeks ago.
