4 February 2024 at 03:49 New award for the film “Ibelin” The awards continue to pour in for Norwegian “Ibelin” – most recently at the Nordics’ largest film festival. It is the first time a Norwegian film has received the documentary film award at the film festival in Gothenburg, which is the Nordic region’s largest. The film tells the story of Mats Steen, a Norwegian gamer who died when he was 25 years old. Then the parents found out that he had had a very rich life in the digital sphere, with friends around the world. Since premiering at Sundance (where it also won), the film has been lauded with awards and acquired by Netflix. – With Ibelin, director Benjamin Ree has made a unique documentary film that proves to hit and move audiences – and film award juries – all over the world, says director Kjersti Mo of the Norwegian Film Institute. The film is directed by Benjamin Ree, who says it is overwhelming to win in Gothenburg. – To be honest, I’m also a little lost for words. What an honor, says Ree. Mats Steen was the son of former Oslo city councilor Robert Steen and the grandson of Labor Party leader Reiulf Steen. (NTB)
