18 July 2023 at 17:07 New heat record in Rome The Italian capital Rome has registered a new heat record on Tuesday: 41.8 degrees Celsius. Rome’s previous heat record from June 2022 was 40.7 degrees. The Mediterranean countries continue to bake in an intense heat wave. That was the message from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) – the United Nations body for meteorology on Monday. The heat that now characterizes Italy, among others, will probably not end anytime soon. WMO expects the heat to intensify during the week, and that the heat will continue through July and into August. Heat waves are among the deadliest natural hazards with thousands of people dying from heat-related causes each year.
